Inside our second shade house, we continue working Inside our second shade house, we continue working with the substrate. As mentioned before, we mix different natural materials sourced from the region and blend them until the mixture is fully uniform.
This enriched substrate is then used in the planting beds, and also in our nutrition towers. Once the vanilla plants grow larger, they naturally extend their roots into these towers and begin to feed from them.
That’s how we nourish our vanilla: with carefully prepared, local, natural substrate.
Follow us to learn more about how we grow and care for our vanilla from the ground up.

Vanilla Pollination Follow-Up Pollination is just Vanilla Pollination Follow-Up
Pollination is just the first step in the journey of vanilla. When it works, each flower transforms into a bean. In this video, you can see the beans that developed successfully, and some spots where the beans didn’t make it. A good sign is when the wilted flower stays attached; it means the bean has started to grow. During the first 45 days, it reaches its full size. After that, it slowly begins producing the natural precursors of vanillin. This process continues over the next 9 months, until the beans are ready to be harvested and cured.
Follow us to see what happens next. The journey from flower to fully cured vanilla takes time, care, and patience.
Vanilla isn’t just a flavor — it’s a story c Vanilla isn’t just a flavor — it’s a story centuries in the making.
Originating in Mesoamerica, the Totonac people were the first to cultivate this tropical orchid.
It was treasured by ancient civilizations, including the Aztecs who used it to enhance their drinks.
Today, vanilla remains one of the most precious spices worldwide.
Its natural pollination is tricky, which is why hand pollination is essential for a great harvest.
Discover the rich history behind every vanilla bean.

Why does real vanilla taste so special? Because ea Why does real vanilla taste so special?
Because each bean takes time — and lots of care.
The vanilla orchid blooms just once a year and for only one day.
After it's been pollinated, the beans grow slowly for up to 9 months before harvest.
At Vanilla-Trade, we respect this rhythm of nature.
Each pod we offer is naturally grown, hand-picked, and full of authentic flavor.

Vanilla is a climbing orchid that can grow up to 2 Vanilla is a climbing orchid that can grow up to 20 meters high if left alone.

But since we hand-pollinate every flower, we need to keep the plant within reach.

Usually at a much lower height.

This process is called encauzamiento.

As the vine grows, it naturally tries to climb, but we gently guide it down when needed, especially when it starts touching the ground.

When the vine touches soil, those roots you see aren’t just for gripping — they start absorbing nutrients, helping the plant grow stronger.

We carefully lower the vine and bury part of it (two or three nodes) to encourage root growth.
This makes the vanilla plant healthier and more resilient.

It’s a delicate balance of nature and care, ensuring we can nurture every flower while the vine keeps climbing.
Vanilla isn’t just a flavor, it’s a flower. V Vanilla isn’t just a flavor, it’s a flower.

Vanilla comes from the Vanilla planifolia orchid, one of the only orchids in the world that produces edible fruit: the vanilla bean.

Each flower blooms for just one day, and every pod is pollinated by hand.

At Vanilla-Trade, we grow our vanilla with the same patience and respect it has deserved for centuries.

Real. Natural. From flower to flavor.
